==The Quasibook==
Preface
A couple of months ago, I was
looking for a laptop for couch surfing (since my wife has taken over my
thinkpad). Because I only intended to use the laptop for web
surfing, music,
videos, and apparently web authoring, I knew that I didn't need
anything too spectacular. To be honest, one of my
pet peeves is computer salesmen who try to convince the general public
that they need a laptop with a dual-core processor,
more RAM than my gaming rig, and a terabyte of hard drive space...but
don't get me started on that one. Since
I'm such a huge fan of Ebay, I looked around on there for another
thinkpad. However, I couldn't find any that I
liked for the price that I liked. So on a whim, I started looking
for a 12 inch ibook. I had worked with them quite a bit in my
last job. I also
really liked the compact design of the ibook. It was listed "as
is" for parts or repair.
When I received the laptop, it wouldn't load the OS. The lister
also said the screen seemed a bit "dim" but I haven't noticed anything
out of the ordinary. Since the ibook didn't come
with any software (and also because I've become a huge Linux fan) I
loaded it with Ubuntu for powerpc. That went
well with very few problems. I do say very few because I have yet
to load linux without encountering some sort of
setback. Here are a few pictures of the newly acquired
ibook. At this point, i've got Ubuntu loaded and
working, but that's about all that I've done to it.
I'd say that it is now completed, but any of you that mod or build up
computers know that they're never actually done. You're always
changing them around and thinking of new mods to do.
